The Evolution of PMI and PPM 

Course Description: Project, Program, and Portfolio Management (PPM) has evolved significantly since PMI was established over 55 years ago.  This evolution has occurred over many phases with the establishment of standards, the recognition of the profession, and the creation of chapters worldwide.  This presentation provides an overview of this evolution, a view of where we are today, and a glance at what’s ahead. 

Speaker: Teresa Knudson

Bio: Terri Knudson has been actively involved in PMI for over 20 years and is currently serving her second term on the PMI Board of Directors.  Like many of us, she is an “accidental” project manager.  Her career began in Finance and IT, before she began pursuing her profession in Project and Portfolio Management. 

Terri spent the majority of her career at Mayo Clinic in various senior leadership roles involved in managing large enterprise-wide initiatives.  These experiences led her to establish the Mayo Clinic Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO), which is responsible for a wide range of services.  In 2023, the EPMO was honored by PMI with the designation of PMO of the Year. 

Terri recently retired from Mayo Clinic and is working independently consulting, publishing, speaking, and sharing her experiences to assist others in their PPM journey.
